Welcome to the Home page of the Southern England Kite Group ....

The Southern England Kite Group (SEKG) monitors the red kite population in the Chilterns and surrounding area. Red kites were reintroduced into the Chilterns over a six year period starting in 1989, by the Nature Conservancy Council (NCC ) (now Natural England)

Early monitoring was carried out by the NCC and this was later undertaken by the SEKG which was formed in 1997 by individuals who were involved with monitoring at that time.

It is affilliated to Natural England, The British Trust for Ornithology and the RSPB.

The Group has been continuously monitoring the progress of the birds and also provided young chicks for the further introduction projects throughout england and scotland. A total of 291 chicks have been collected since 1997. These include 57 chicks collected during 2007, 2008 and 2009 for the release project in Aberdeen, Scotland.
